Boxboy Amiibo Coming to Japan!

Boxboy! is a downloadable game that Nintendo has really been pushing and with excellent reviews and a charming design, why not advertise it?  With BoxBoy! 3 coming soon, according to the Amiibo Reddit, they’ve decided to release an Amiibo to go with it.  Currently, this is only scheduled for a Japan release like the Monster Hunter Stories Amiibo.  This could all change in time though and if a US release is announced you can be sure we’ll let you know.  If you check otakumode.com and amiami.com, you’re sure to be able to preorder and purchase this Amiibo from Japan for a fairly decent price as well.

This is an interesting pairing because BoxBoy is made by HAL Laboratories who makes the Kirby games and is where former Nintendo President Iwata established his reputation as an excellent video game developer.  The closest Amiibo release to this is Shovel Knight which is also a downloadable game primarily but that was not made by a company Nintendo partially owns.

Here is a look at the new Qbby Amiibo and packaging.  I’ve never played BoxBoy! (not a puzzle game fan) but I like the clean and cute design here.  It definitely seems Japanese in that sense which I think is a compliment to the design.  What do you think of the new Amiibo?  Could Nintendo have a hit if they released this Amiibo alongside the retail version of BoxBoy! 3?  Or would this be another Chibi-Robo which quickly goes on sale after its release?  Let us know in the comments below.

  1. Simple and cute. I’ve never played BoxBoy, but I think I need to check it out. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go monitor amiami so i can buy this when it pops up. 🙂

    • I had a similar reaction. I’ve heard people say they really like BoxBoy but never considered downloading it until now. It is funny how an Amiibo makes you take something even more seriously! 🙂
