While I have long considered doing a guide like this, I often thought it would be too ambitious or too much work to keep up with. And yet, World of Nintendo remains a very confusing figure line to collect and a challenge to even learn about. Releases come and go with little fanfare if you don’t know where to look. I want to make things as easy as possible for new collectors so I’m going to take on the challenge of writing a guide for all World of Nintendo releases. It will take some time to get this completely done so bear with me as I work on it over the coming weeks and get it fully updated.
Before we get into the details, I want to say thank you to the World of Nintendo Reddit which is where a lot of the information in this guide comes from. They’ve done a great job documenting releases and while I know a lot of information about these figures, I also relied heavily on the information they have published to help fill in the gaps. If you don’t follow the World of Nintendo Reddit and collect these figures, you’re really missing out!
To help you navigate what is a large guide, I have included links below so you can jump to a particular section. You can also return back to the top by clicking links once you’re further in the guide to find exactly what you’re looking for.

4″ Inch Figure Line
I’m going to start with the 4″ Inch figure line because they are my favorite and I believe (based on absolutely no scientific evidence whatsoever) that they are the most popular with collectors. As Amiibo rarity declined or Amiibo collectors looked for additional toy lines to collect, World of Nintendo 4″ Inch figures have carved out a nice niche with many interesting figures that you can’t get from Nintendo’s Amiibo releases. All 4″ inch figures come with an accessory and have relatively standard articulation for action figures. While it is certainly true that some figures are rarer than others, some figures have also been rereleased and so you never when older figures might pop up in stores. Hunting down World of Nintendo figures can challenging, unpredictable, and a lot of fun which is one of its greatest appeals. If you’d like to find more information about where to buy World of Nintendo figures and how much they retail for, check out the guide I wrote. Finally, if you like any of the figures you see in the guide and want to learn more, if I have reviewed it on the site, I have included a link to it so you can conveniently jump to the review and read more.

4″ Inch Trophy Series – This is where things get dicey with World of Nintendo. The Trophy Series was originally announced as a small Walmart Exclusive with a couple figures in the first release. Since then, Jakks Pacific has turned existing figures into Trophy Series without announcing them so they are showing up on Ebay or the World of Nintendo Reddit out of nowhere. I have a hard time judging how many World of Nintendo collectors pursue these figures and their prices are inconsistent online as well. I’m going to include a list of as many of these figures as I can but keep in mind that it is hard to find pictures of all of them so it may take some time for me to get them all in the guide.

Prototype Series – The other variants that Jakks Pacific have released are the Prototype Series which is basically just a black and white version of existing figures. Much like with the Trophy Series, there has been little to no fanfare around their releases and these figures are only available at Target. I have yet to actually see one of these in-person and don’t like them enough to pay the inflated prices on Ebay but if you like variant figures then you may want to check these out as they are quite the challenge to hunt down!

2.5″ Inch Figure Line This is the most prolific figure line in World of Nintendo with some releases being retailer exclusive. The 2.5” figures have limited or no articulation and do not come with an accessory. In my opinion, 2.5” figures often have a slightly worse paint job/higher number of paint defects than the 4” figures do as well. The small size and cheap price of $3.50-$5 at most US retailers help offset this. They also are small enough in the packaging that it is doable to collect all of these in-box whereas Amiibo and 4” figures are much more difficult. One thing to keep in mind about this line is that many figures come out first in this size and then are released in the larger 4” inch size so that can put collectors in a tough spot as far as which one to get or if you buy the 2.5” figures early, you may end up “double-dipping.” The following waves have been released at various retailers and then retail exclusive waves will follow:

Walmart Exclusive Waves –The 2.5” figures that are Walmart “exclusives” are the longest running exclusive in World of Nintendo. The catch is that the vast majority of these figures are basically “reprints” from the main 2.5” line, just in slightly different packaging. These figures come open and placed in cardboard so they are display friendly if you don’t mind the dust. I will include pictures of a few of these figures here and there but to save bandwidth and because they are the same as figures pictured previously, I will not include pictures of each figure. Family Dollar Wave –While never officially released, these bizarre offshoots of the 2.5” inch figures actually come with an accessory. I suspect the accessory was added because Jakks made too many of these figures (all of the figures were “peg warmers,” meaning they sat around at retail and weren’t selling) so they repurposed them, added an accessory and sold them at a lower price chain store. Despite the fact that these figures are such an oddity, they don’t seem to command premium prices on Ebay which is great news if you want to go back and buy them.

6″ Inch Figure Line
One of the reasons I placed this figure line after the smaller figure releases is that it was not an immediate hit and indeed, the 6″ inch line at the time of writing has been officially ended by Jakks Pacific. There have been rumblings that they will bring it back but nothing has been announced and the only figures released in the line occurred over a year ago so it may seem like less and less of a possibility. However, the 6″ line went from peg warmers in Toys R Us for many months, especially Donkey Kong, to being some of the more sought after regular figure releases. The 6″ line also seems to be re-released at Toys R Us in small amounts every so often too. Within the last year, I’ve seen Ganondorf hanging out at my local Toys R Us, for example. So no new figures may be coming out but that doesn’t mean some figures in this line is necessarily hard to find either though some releases like Bowser and Metroid are harder to find than the others.

Micro Land Figure Line
When I started this site, I founded it on covering Amiibo (which were still new at the time) and Micro Land figures. I loved the Micro Land line but it did not sell as well as the larger figures and Jakks Pacific probably overplayed their hand when they released the Zelda: Wind Waker wave which has sat on store shelves for months, if not years now. It is pretty safe to assume that Micro Land is done and most likely won’t be coming back any time soon. A while back, I made a guide that covers every aspect of these figures, so instead of including that in this guide, I’m going to leave a link that you can visit here instead. Micro Land deserved more success than it got and if you’re at all interested in small scale Nintendo figures, then you should definitely check it out!

Nintendo Micro Blind Boxes
While Micro Land may be over, the figures have been refashioned into a Blind Box line. These are the same figures you used to buy in 3-packs, only now they are random and $3 a piece. This is more expensive than the old Micro Land figure packs and the randomness may not appeal to everyone either. With that said, there have been two series of these blind boxes and it is entirely possible that more may come out in the future. This is one World of Nintendo figure line that is not easy to predict what will happen with it!

Super Mario Squishies Blind Bags
In 2018, Jakks Pacific launched a new brand of blind bags featuring squishy versions of your favorite Nintendo characters. I reviewed this product and found it to be surprisingly fun and well worth the $5. First off, the size of the product is impressive and around 4” tall. Being able to squeeze a character like a Goomba and have it go right back to full size seconds later is a nice stress reliever and the perfect kids’ toy too. Thus far there is a single wave of releases which I’ve included an image of below. If you’re looking for a particular character, you can probably figure out if there are any for sale by squeezing and feeling the packages. Some like the question block is really obvious as to what it is in the packaging too. While there is no denying that first wave is perhaps too Mario-heavy, I hope that we’ll see more characters get released from other Nintendo franchises soon too.

20″ Inch Figure Line
If you’re looking for a large scale figure for a reasonable price, look no further than this small line from World of Nintendo. Jakks Pacific makes really big plastic figures for a number of their licensed properties and Nintendo has gotten the same treatment. I would assume these are fairly durable and good toys for children to play with though I could be wrong since I have never owned one (I’m too obsessed with how much space my collection takes up to add such a huge figure to it!). If you own one of these figures and can share your experiences with us in the comments below, that would be much appreciated! Since some of these figures do not appear to no longer be in-stock, it appears that they originally retailed for about $30-$35 at Toys R Us though my local store has Link heavily reduced on a clearance sale. You can also purchase them used on Ebay for even cheaper. There is one special release of Link that was available at San Diego Comic Con in a partnership of Entertainment Earth and Jakks Pacific. It is pretty safe to assume that this figure commands a higher price though I could not find any that have sold on Ebay at the time of writing to back this up. While as far as I know, this line is still active, with two Mario’s and Link already out, it is hard to imagine there will be a lot more figures in this line. Perhaps a Luigi or a Link variation but it is obvious that this is for Nintendo’s biggest characters only.

Plush
While I don’t cover them on the site as much as they deserve since I don’t collect them, Jakks Pacific does make plush as part of the World of Nintendo line. These plush are pretty affordable, $10 or less in most stores I’ve visited, though they are not quite as high quality as those coming out of Japan. The fact that they’re easy to find and there is a nice range of plush make these well worth picking up. I may eventually get pictures for each of these plush but for now, I will just list the releases and include as many good pictures as I can find. Special thanks goes to the World of Nintendo Reddit for this information!

[…] While we patiently await the release of new Amiibo and World of Nintendo in the near future, I thought I’d go ahead and add the Super Mario Squishies Blind Bags to the World of Nintenod Guide. My plan is to wait until the next wave or two of figures hit retailers before I update it again since occasionally releases change (like the relatively recent Bowser Jr. that got a surprise redesign shortly before release). To see Super Mario Squishies and all of the other cool products in the World of Nintendo line, check out: World of Nintendo Figure Release Guide! […]

[…] World of Nintendo – Similarly priced to Amiibo (though 2.5 inch figures are a good bit cheaper), World of Nintendo makes for a good budget figure and these are well-suited for kids. Luigi has seen a number of releases in World of Nintendo and while some are less exciting than others, this is still a great line to dip into and most of the figures should be pretty easy to find online for a good price. Luigi generally was one of the more common figures in each wave and I would often see Luigi warming the pegs when the other figures had already been sold. Perhaps the highlight of World of Nintendo is the 8-Bit Luigi which no other figure line has tackled. Cat Luigi also offers something different for Nintendo fans. It is worth noting that many of the Luigi figures in World of Nintendo have been released in multiple waves as reprints. I have only included information for the first release of each figure design. If you want comprehensive release information including each of the rereleases, please check out the World of Nintendo Release Guide. […]
