First Impressions of Princess Peach and Mario 2-Pack

A while back I reported on a special, limited edition World of Nintendo release sold at San Diego Comic Con.  The Princess Peach and Mario 2-Pack could be purchased from Entertainment Earth on the show floor during the convention.  For anyone unable to attend, they could essentially pre-order to potentially buy any that did not sell at the convention.  I was lucky enough to get an order in before they sold out and sure enough, a couple days after San Diego Comic Con ended, I got an email from Entertainment Earth letting me know that my 2-pack was shipping!

I always love to hunt down a rare figure and while I have no idea how many of these will be made, I suspect it will be limited.  I do not plan on opening this figure set because it is such a nice display piece and I want to preserve the packaging so I can’t do my usual review.  Instead, I thought I’d talk a bit about my first impressions and show off a few pictures.

The packaging truly is outstanding and evokes playing NES for those of us old to have done so back in the 1980’s and 1990’s.  I was surprised both by the size of the packaging and how much it uses depth.  The box is about as tall and wide as a cereal box you get at the grocery and it almost looks as if you’re looking into a TV after Mario has conquered Bowser in Super Mario Bros!  I can’t say I’ve seen many video game figures that try this hard to imitate the real video game with the packaging and Jakks Pacific really nailed it here.

Perhaps the only downside I can come up with in my first impressions is the cost.  While it is true that you’re paying extra for the fancy cardboard since this costs $20 for two figures that are typically $5, I’d have to say it is definitely worth it if you feel at all nostalgic look at it.  The two pack is an excellent display item that will make anyone’s shelf look cooler. I don’t know how expensive or valuable this figure set will be but I do think there will be significant demand for it because it is such a unique collector’s item that I’ve not seen anywhere else before.

If you purchased this item or would just like to share your thoughts about this new release, please let us know what you think in the comments below!

    • Thank you so much! 🙂 I feel lucky to have gotten this set and I think it fits your interest as a retro collector well. It is the perfect addition to an NES shelf for example I wish that this two pack was more commonly available in this packaging for this reason but for now anyway, it doesn’t appear to be the case.
