The Future of NintendoFigures.com

I have been quieter than usual the last couple of weeks on the site and I wanted to explain what has been going on and talk a little bit about the future of the site as well.  First off, my personal life has been really busy the past couple of weeks.  I started looking for a new job a few months ago and ended up interviewing in Chicago this past weekend.  For me anyway, interviews take quite a bit of my free time because I want to make sure that I’m prepared and do my best.  There have been a few small news articles I might have posted if I had more time but unfortunately, I just wasn’t able to do that.  The good news is that I accepted a new position in Chicago and will be moving there from Ohio in the coming weeks.

While I’m really excited to live in a new and bigger city, I don’t know how it will affect toy hunting and this hobby for me.  To be honest, I haven’t been doing a lot of toy hunting for the past couple of months because there has been almost nothing to buy.  Every time I do check for World of Nintendo figures, I don’t see anything new which is why reviews have really slowed down on the site.  I hope that living in a new area will help get me excited for toy hunting again but I suppose the opposite result is also a possibility.

To a certain extent, I have become less excited about Nintendo figures lately because of the slow release schedule and many of the new figures that have been announced for Amiibo just don’t excite me.  If I could find the latest World of Nintendo figures locally, that would really help but my local Meijer’s pegs are full of the previous wave of figures and have been for a couple of months.  Since I haven’t been buying almost any figures, I have found myself trying to find other ways to spend my disposable income which has meant a return to collecting cards (which that and video games are the two things I’ve collected for the longest amount of time).  I would be happy to jump back into buying Amiibo and World of Nintendo figures if something comes out that excites me again.

The reason I share this is that I don’t know what the future of this site is.  I have no intentions of ever taking it down and I will pay for the .com address for many years to come because I want all of the content to be available to new collectors.  At the same time, I also do not update it with the frequency that I used to.  A big part of that is just a lack of things to talk about.  Other than updating old articles, there isn’t a lot for me to cover at the moment.  Unfortunately, if I can’t buy new figures in the coming months, I don’t know what new content I can create for the website.

I’ve been amazed at all of your support and for the viewership on the site.  Even in recent months, the amount of viewers and page views the site gets is really incredible and makes me proud.  I am hesitant to make this site inactive or to stop updating it because I’m so proud and want to keep it going.  With that said, if this hobby continues to dwindle, I will certainly have to consider it.  I wanted to share all of this information with you so you know why the site is quiet over the next couple of weeks.  Once I start to really focus on moving in a couple of weeks, I’ll have to stop updating for a bit but I also plan to do some thinking about the future of the site and what I want to do with it.  I will let you know whatever I decide.  Thank you for your support in the meantime!

  1. I wish you luck in Chicago.

And, in the end, the important thing is doing whatever it is you want to, whether that is slowing down the rate of posts or giving it all a break for a short while. =)

  2. First, congrats on the new job! I wish you all the best with it.

Second, you do you. Blogging is a busy hobby and gaming is an expensive one. We all get in slumps once in a while and have to take a step back. There’s nothing wrong with taking a break or even stopping altogether. Who knows? You might find a new hobby when you move and maybe the dynamic of this site will continue in a different way. Keep your options open, but don’t be afraid of whatever you decide. You’ve done great work. 🙂

    • Thank you Rachel! My hobbies do change over time so it is possible that I will move in a different direction and maybe the site can adapt with it. Video games have been a constant in my life since I was young so I think it is safe to say that I won’t be giving up on gaming but I appreciate your advice and reminder to have fun! I will keep this in mind and keep up the great work you do with your site as well 🙂

  4. congrats on the new job! 🙂 Hope all goes well 🙂

As for the site, don’t feel any pressure on updating frequently, the whole point of a hobby is to have fun with it 🙂

    • Thanks Sam! I’m excited to start a new job and I will try not to put so much pressure on myself to keep writing. I always want the site to be as good as it can be and I probably need to take a step back and focus more on having fun with it. I appreciate all your support! 🙂

  5. Theres a lot of shared frustration in regards to tracking the World Of Nintendo figures (especially the 4inch figs). With Toys R Us gone, Target and Walmart in my area (CT) both do not carry them, that basically leaves me GameStop, Walgreens (2.5” figs only) and the internet, where prices for the more recent figures I want are just insane sometimes. There’s also a lot of frustration in Jakks’ inconsistency in release dates.
I wish you the best and as a fellow collector, let’s hope there is still life in this line and we get some more awesome figs in the future. The 8bit 2.5”s are awesome and they still have lakitu, koopatroopa, shy guy, hammer bro, CHEEP CHEEP, and several other characters that they need to release.

    • Hi Kevin,

You are absolutely right! Finding World of Nintendo figures has always been a pain and takes some serious dedication. If you follow the best news sources, you know when figures are coming out but when it comes to actually finding them in your area, that is a whole different thing unfortunately. I think that helps feed into the scalping on eBay because some people just want their figures and will pay extra for them if need be so they don’t have hunt them down.

I appreciate your comment and kind words! I was lucky enough yesterday to grab a couple new World of Nintendo figures at Meijer I’ve been wanting so that is some positive news. I agree that Jakks Pacific can do a lot more with World of Nintendo still and your ideas for new 2.5″ figures are great! I think Jakks is in a bit of a transition period and are trying to figure out what to do in a post-Toys R Us world but they will have to figure it out quickly or World of Nintendo will potentially fizzle out which would be a real shame.
